Update from your Committee

February 8, 2026 11:41 am

It’s just over a week since our second Residents’ Meeting and we’ve already managed to squeeze in another committee meeting this week!

The slides from the hugely successful meeting are now available to download from our website. 📊🌿You can view them simply by clicking on this link:

Additionally, you can view the 71-page Strategic Objection Document that SKHGB submitted as a formal objection to AVBC last week. 📄🌳Click here to view this comprehensive document which challenges the planning application point by point: 🧐🌱

As discussed at the Resident’s Meeting - we’d love to get your feedback: 💬🌿

Please don’t hesitate to email us at skandhgb@gmail.com if you have any questions or indeed, if you can offer any knowledge that you think may be useful to the campaign. 📧🌱
We are your committee, so any suggestions and ideas are always welcome. 🤝🌳

🌾 TANTS MEADOW 🌾
📝 PLEASE COMPLETE OUR SKHGB – TANTS MEADOW EXPERIENCES SURVEY

Please do keep letting us know your observations and experiences around the traffic on Horsley Road. 🚗🌿 You can email any incidents (with photographic evidence if possible) to: skandhgb@gmail.com 📸

We’d now like to extend this to Tants Meadow. 🌳🌱

According to Derbyshire County Council Highways, Tants Meadow is a non-classified publicly maintainable highway (minor road) with no weight or width restrictions. Some specific things we’d like feedback on are set out in our survey. 🛣️ We urge as many of you as possible to complete it. It will only take you a few minutes and you don’t need to provide any personal information. ⏱️
Please help us now – the more feedback we get, the louder our voice becomes: 📢🌿

We will consolidate feedback into Derbyshire County Council while they are considering Wheeldon’s revised Traffic Assessment, and raise as a further objection (if appropriate) to Amber Valley Borough Council. PLEASE ACT NOW. 🚨🌱

🏫 VISIT TO KILBURN JUNIOR SCHOOL 🏫

Three members of the committee spent a thoroughly enjoyable hour this week meeting around 80 Year 5 and 6 pupils at Kilburn Junior School, along with their teachers.  😊🌿

The headteacher, Mr Hull, invited us in to explain the current planning application and the work of the campaign, and to answer questions from the children as part of their curriculum studies. Their topic centres on a fictional town facing a proposed by-pass, so there were striking parallels with the issues at the heart of the SKHGB campaign. The pupils were encouraged to look at the proposal from all sides and to consider both support for, and opposition to, the development. ⚖️🌳

Ahead of our visit, the children had already been taken on a walk into the proposed development site fields, so they had a strong grasp of the local geography and what is at stake. 🚶‍♀️🌾

They asked some genuinely brilliant and incisive questions about the planning application and our campaign, which made it clear just how well prepared and engaged they were. 💡🌱

Most of the pupils live very locally, and it was hugely encouraging to see the level of interest, understanding and concern they showed for their local environment and community. 🌍🌿

CPRE LETTER TO ENGLAND - PLEASE SIGN

For over a century, the Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) has shown that when people speak up, the countryside can be protected and made better for generations to come. 🌳🌱

Today, that countryside is at a crossroads, under unprecedented pressure from climate change, nature loss and short-sighted decisions. 🌍⚠️

If you believe in a beautiful, resilient countryside for tomorrow, please sign the Letter to England (link below) and add your voice to shaping its future. 🗣️🌿

🚶‍♂️ SPRING WALK FOR THE GREEN BELT 🚶‍♀️
📅 Saturday 18 April 2026
⏰ 7.30am
📍 Start point: The Hunters Arms Car Park, Church Street, Kilburn

Following on from the hugely successful Winter Walk for the Green Belt, we are hosting an Early Bird Spring Walk which coincides with the NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR NATURE. This nationwide event, organised by the Community Planning Alliance, is inviting communities across the UK to come together to celebrate and protect the green spaces we love. 🌿🤝

Our walk will take us across the beautiful Green Belt fields that we are fighting so hard to protect. As it’s an early start, we’d like to extend our gratitude to The Coach & Horses in Horsley who have offered to open early, to allow all walkers a short break, where breakfast cobs and refreshments will be available to purchase before the return walk back to Kilburn. We expect the walk to be completed by 11am at the latest. ☕🌾
