The latest news from your committee.

1. FURTHER DELAY TO APPLICATION DECISION DATE - UPDATE

As highlighted last week, the Amber Valley Borough Council Planning Committee meeting scheduled for 13 April has been cancelled. This means the previously indicated decision date of 30 April will not be met, with the next Planning Committee meeting now set for 11 May 2026.

We have written to the Council seeking a clear explanation for this continued slippage. They have advised that they are unable to discuss the matter with third parties, so we have now asked our Borough Councillors to investigate further and obtain clarity on behalf of residents.

2. LOCAL MP CONTACTED - UPDATE

We have written to our local MP, Linsey Farnsworth, to request continued support ahead of the upcoming decision, and we await her response.

While we recognise the sensitivities of her position as both a local resident and constituency MP, residents are seeking greater clarity on how she is able to represent the community more fully on this issue.

3. ECOLOGY AND WILDLIFE SURVEYS

Residents have reported that ecology and wildlife surveys have been taking place in the fields this week, commissioned by Wheeldon. As part of this work, monitoring mats have been placed at various locations across the site.

These mats are flat sheets laid on the ground to attract wildlife seeking warmth and shelter. Surveyors then return at set intervals to check beneath them and record what species are present.

If you notice any similar activity in the fields or on the roads, please do let us know.

4. SPRING WALK FOR THE GREEN BELT

Saturday 18 April 2026

Start time: 8.30am

Meet at: The Hunters Arms Car Park, Church Street, Kilburn

Join us for a relaxed early morning walk across the Green Belt land we are working to protect, as part of the National Day of Action for Nature.

Events to protect the green belt are taking place across the UK, so please come along and show your support for our area.

This free, family-friendly event is open to everyone. The route heads over to Horsley, where breakfast cobs and refreshments will be available to purchase at The Coach & Horses, before returning to Kilburn.

We appreciate that not everyone is on Facebook, so please feel free to invite your family, friends and neighbours.

Expected finish: around 11.30am
